Description:

59841-7 The complete guide to building efficient, secure CDMA networks. This timely volume provides an in-depth treatment of the important concepts for architecting, analyzing, developing, and implementing efficient, secure CDMA cellular networks. CDMA is an attractive technique for wireless access to broadband services and has emerged as the leading technology for today's new mobile communications systems. CDMA Cellular Mobile Communications and Network Security is your complete guide to planning, designing, and securing the efficient CDMA cellular systems. Learn all the fundamentals to intensive system concepts and innovative implementation techniques for CDMA spread spectrum multiple access communications, including: * CDMA cell coverage and forward/reverse channel links. * Bandwidth efficiency and multiple access capabilities. * Long code PN sequence for data spreading or data scrambling. * Power control subchannel puncturing on forward traffic channel. * Data burst randomizer for generation of a masking pattern for reverse traffic channel. * Call processing, including signaling formats, message reception and acknowledgment, registration, handoff procedures and orders. * One-way functions and hash codes. * Authentication, encryption, and message privacy. * Wideband CDMA channels. Understand the techniques for encoding, repeating, interleaving, modulation, spreading, filtering and QPSK transmission that make CDMA possible. Then, take a detailed look at each CDMA code channel. Walk through the design issues surrounding the CDMA forward channel, including its pilot, sync, paging, and forward traffic code channels. Examines the access and reverse traffic code channels that make up the CDMA reverse channel. This book offers a complete, comprehensive, and innovative treatment of the various disciplines and algorithms/protocols that form the foundations for implementing advanced CDMA digital cellular networks. This timely volume includes worked solutions to nearly 150 CDMA engineering problems, carefully designed to explain all critical aspects of effective CDMA planning, design, or implementation. For practicing engineers, CDMA Cellular Mobile Communications and Network Security is an unprecedented resource.

4Comprehensive Book on CDMAMar 24, 2000

I used this book as a reference for a research paper on CDMA. It explains in detail some of the CDMA concepts that are just touched upon in a general text on wireless communications. I would recommend the reader first read a book like Wireless Communications by Rappaport and then read this book to get into specific details. Overall, I found the book useful in my research.

2A reference book, at best...Oct 10, 2000

If you have absolute no exposure to the CDMA technology, then you could use this to get a rough idea. But this is an extremely difficult book to learn from. The biggest problem: a lot of material is taken directly out of the industry specs, IS-95 (sometimes word by word; I am surprised that the publisher would let this book be published this way). Since the specs are meant to be the guideline only, the reader would not know the reasonings, and therefore the pros and cons of the specs and their alternatives. I believe that there are a lot of much better materials on the internet out there (and books) that would give you a better idea on the subject, especially considering the cost of this book.
