Read the book, review what you don't know, pass the test.Jul 22, 2010 I read the book, read up on what I didn't know, took the review tests with the book, and then passed the test. 'nuff said.
The best certification book I've ever picked upJul 15, 2010 This is a very comprehensive guide for the CISSP exam. This is already a step in the right direction since the CISSP exam is "an inch deep and a mile wide." It more than covers the 10 domains within the Common Body of Knowledge. In addition, it is a fairly easy read. Shon Harris did a great job breaking it down to lamens terms and applying these concepts to the real world.
I passed my CISSP examination a few months back, and this was the book I used to study for it. Highly recommended!!!
Why so much?Jul 14, 2010 Why is a soft copy version of this book so much more (nearly $15) than a hardcopy. This is ridiculous.
The best tool for the jobApr 26, 2010 If your goal is to pass the CISSP exam, then I think the Shon Harris All-in-One book is the one you need to read. I have more than 10 years of experience in information security, but I know from many other test experiences that real-world knowledge does not always translate into the correct answer on a multiple-choice question. What is needed is a way to organize your knowledge and experience so that your brain will respond to the questions on the CISSP exam. That is test preparation; and that is what this book does.
The CISSP is an advanced-level certification for professionals who have a minimum of five years of experience in the field. With that level of experience, you will find that most of the book is review. Some of it is very elementary: Basic networking, the OSI levels, cabling. But other areas get quite advanced. I think the book falters a bit on encryption, where the explanations are confusing and material that is actually very interesting is rendered quite dull. For a different perspective, read Singh's The Code Book: How to Make It, Break It, Hack It, Crack It. But Harris' coverage of access control models and the various security standards and their history is well done. The little jokes inserted into the material help keep the reader alert and change up the pace.
I began reading this book in January and completed it about a week before taking the exam in late March. I passed. The book will now be bequeathed to a colleague who wants to study for the CISSP. I can't imagine ever looking in it again. But many thanks to Shon Harris for writing this tome, keeping it up-to-date and accurate, and jazzing it up with snarky little jokes.
Great as every.Apr 21, 2010 I bought this book to replace the first edition. As always she is the best. But was little disappointed with some of the content, and also felt that the she tried to squeeze-in too much information. I like the first edition better, but it is little dated.
