3Good Read But AnnoyingAug 18, 2009
By Dave - Cornelius
This book is very readable. The author's personal touch makes it more enjoyable. This makes going through a dry subject easier. A special strength for this book is when it deals with subnetting in much detail. There is one chapter and an appendix on this subject.

The annoying part is all the typos, misstatements, and wrong answers. The text has a few wrong answers, but the practice exams and flashcards on the CD have numerous wrong answers (about 13) along with all the typos. The book and accompanying materials should have been proof-read before being published. Because of this, I would rate this book below average. The cool thing about all this is that the majority of the text material taught me what was wrong in those conflicting areas. I'd prefer a guide book that's more reliable, though.

5This book deliversMay 22, 2009
By NC Explorer "NC Explorer"
I purchased this book after deciding to pursue my Network + certification. I am currently through 75% of the book. The book is very comprehensive but also straight forward. As the author states, in many areas he goes into far more detail about subject matter than the Network + exam requires. However, this detail does an excellent job in giving you both a high level and detailed view of how network related information fits together. This book will serve as an excellent reference manual.

After passing the Network + exam using this book, I am going to pursue my CCNA. About three years ago I attended classes at a local community college that used Cisco Network Academy course materials. I didn't complete it. In my opinion the Cisco Network Academy materials where a bit sketchy in some areas. Even though the Network + material is not vendor specific, it covered many of the same subject areas as the Cisco materials, but it has done a far better job.

Overall, I think this is an excellent book. If you need to know anything about general networking, or are seriously considering obtaining your CCNA, use this book first to get your Network +.

5Great book easy to read and covers everything you need for the testApr 19, 2011
By Robert Arbuckle
Bought this book about 6 weeks ago, read it cover to cover, did all of the practice exams, took notes, and re-read the areas that weren't clear the first time and took the test today and passed with an 851/900. This book made getting Network+ easy! Thanks Todd Lammle!

3Convient but not completely accurate.Sep 29, 2009
By Mike
I could overlook a few typos here and there, but only to a certain point. On bonus exam 2, question 29, there is a part that makes no sense. "What advanced feather..." I can only imagine they mean feature, not feather. I have found many questions to have inaccurate answers (the description is usually accurate, but the correct letter is not). That leads me to wonder how many were wrong that I did not catch. There are some test questions that state "select all that apply" but it will only allow you to select one answer. I have come across test questions that refer to a diagram that would not display.

One really nice feature is the ebook. It is much more convenient for me, as I do not have to lug around the book. I was also looking forward to the flash cards, tests, and virtual lab. For the tests, I started checking the answers as I went along with the test, so I could get accurate results (as some are incorrect). I am concerned about the accuracy of the flash cards. The virtual lab appears to be very limited, and not all together useful.

Yes, I would recommend it, but a little quality control would be nice.

5Great study guideJun 24, 2009
By Douglas Krusell "Doug"
I have a lot of experience with computers, I've been troubleshooting for family/friends for about 8 years, but had no formal training, and no certifications. I decided that IT is something I enjoy doing, so I figured I'd get some certifications. I started with this book, and I should say that I have a great memory. I studied this book for about a week and a half, and used the practice tests from it for about 3 days. I just took the Network+ test about 20 minutes ago and scored 875/900. This book is excellent, and the practice tests are great too. I did find his style of writing rather annoying and condescending at times, and he really goes overboard with restating the same point sometimes, but overall it is a great book and is very good at explaining 99% of the material. The other 1% of the time, if you go back and re-read, or continue reading to get the big picture, it will make sense. If you're considering taking the Net+ certification, I highly recommend this book.
