5Making Security+ FunMar 24, 2010
By Mike Meyers
We teach hundreds of students in Security+ every year and this is the book we use to teach our courses. Conklin and crew have vast experience yet approach the "light touch - not too deep" aspect of Security+ with a perfect blend of technical nerdiness countered with easy reading. While it might be a bit of a stretch to say they make Security+ fun, I can say that they make Security+ approachable, readable - and most importantly TEACHABLE. Something no one else has yet done in my opinion.

This is an excellent edition period! Easy to read and understand. The text is clear and concise. Compared to the earlier version, the topics are set up the in the same format with additional information. If you are like me and your class is working out of the former version don't be afraid to purchase this book. I highly recommend this book if you want to understand anything about network security.

4Principles of Computer Security, CompTIA Security+ and BeyondMay 14, 2012

Very good book. Easy to read and follow. Lots of information. Some chapters are lighter read than others and the chapters reference each other. The quizzes do reinforce the information in the chapters. Overall great book purchase.

5Great for Studying Breadth or DepthJun 11, 2011
By John
These authors know their stuff and this understanding is reflected with the elegance of this book.

This book is a great balance between Breadth and Depth. For those who just need the certificate as a graduation requirement or an extra boost, this book allows you do be able to pass without intense, painful effort.

For those of us that want to make a career out of computer security, it goes in-depth enough to satisfy the craving for knowledge.

The lab projects are for those who want to especially go in-depth. Some of the lab projects are not realistic to do if you are studying on your own without networking equipment.

The only complaints I have are:

1) Sometimes the wording in the book was ambiguous so it was harder to pick the correct answer for the Multiple Choice Quiz.

2) The CD only had a whole quiz and did not have the chapter quizzes. It would have been extremely useful to be able to take the test alongside the chapter quizzes. It's not a big deal because the chapter quizzes are available online. It just would have been nice to have them all in one place.

I would recommend reading this book alongside the latest edition of "Hacking for Dummies" as the two compliment each other and reinforce understanding.

If you need any book for the CompTIA Security+ exam, I would recommend this one.
