Security in networks is an important aspect. This book provides a substantial and up-to-date overview about this topic. In the first part of this book the mathematical background of cryptography is described in detail. In addition, all important cryptographical mechanisms and methods including the generation of secure random numbers are clearly described. The focus of the second part of this book is on the application of cryptographical mechanisms in today's wide-area networks. Protocols like PPP, IPSec, and SSH as well as the properties and functionalities of VPNs and firewalls are described in detail. Finally, the third part of this book considers security aspects in modern wireless / mobile local and global networks like WLAN, GSM, and UMTS. This book is designed as a textbook. But due to its clear and elaborated structure it can be also used as a reference book.
