From the supplier: Many people mistakenly assume that computer data is very easy to erase. On the contrary, data can survive even when subjected to normal methods of erasure or destruction and interested parties can thus recover files. Even more sophisticated methods such as degaussing may not be enough to frustrate determined entities when the information being sought is extremely valuable. As such, security managers should know how computers store data and the various destruction options available. They should make a careful assessment of the organization's data and tailor the appropriate destruction method to its importance. In addition, officials with access to sensitive data should be advised on procedures which would help prevent the unauthorized recovery of files.
