5Good for do-it-yourselfersDec 30, 2009
By RussellC
I rewired my house for cable, phone and a computer network and this book covered it all. It did take a couple of rereadings on the part about how to do the final terminations (there are a lot of colors and wires), and there are two wiring standards, but the book did cover it. I'm not a technician, but with a little forethought and common sense I got all 3 systems working the first time.

5Informative Guide for BeginnersOct 15, 2010
By Ben C.A. Nettle
This is a very well designed guide to building and maintaining your own home network. It covers topics for both retrofitting as well as designing a network into a new home, and each section is covered with detailed instructions and photos. There are sections on wireless and wired networks, how to run/connect the wiring, and even a section on removing and patching sheet rock. Even for someone who may already be familiar with networking, there are good ideas for the home, such as installing pvc pipe to allow for future upgrades without having to bring down the walls.

If you're looking to install a home network or wiring setup, this will tell you everything you need to know. While written in 2004, not much has changed regarding this since then, and many of the tips/tricks should be useful for a long time.

By Patrick L. Morris
In just over 120 pages, this Sunset edition on home network wiring covers in great detail wiring your home for digital. Along with step-by-step details, illustrations and photographs (2-3 a page) provide very useful visual examples. I had bought a few wiring books before this and none come close.

I was hoping to get some pointers for doing a ethernet wiring of the home, but this book didn't have too much helpful information. Everything in this book can be found for free online.
